Chase, a Certified Nurse Executive, is currently the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. In his tenure at the facility, he has successfully promoted through a variety of roles including Emergency Department Staff Nurse, Stroke and Cardiovascular Program Coordinator, Director of Clinical Applications and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer. Most recently, Chase has worked with facility stakeholders to complete multiple strategic initiatives including EHR implementation, enhancement of the virtual sitter fall reduction program and facility expansion to include St. David’s Children’s Hospital and St. David’s Surgical Hospital. Currently, he is the chair of the facility Patient Safety Committee, the Innovation Committee, and the Patient Falls Committee. Chase is a graduate from the HCA Executive Development Program and currently serves as President of the Central Texas Organization of Nurse Executives. As a transformational leader, he believes in the development of mission driven culture that promotes the highest quality of care and enhances employee engagement through ownership.
Over the last decade, numerous publications have quantified the quality and financial impact of patient falls both on patients and healthcare providers. Balancing risk verse reward, St. David’s North Austin Medical Center has implemented a fall reduction program that has achieved a reduced in patient falls and the labor constraints needed to implement an effective fall reduction program.
· Review your institution’s multicomponent fall-prevention program and monthly falls data to identify opportunities for improvement.
· Use a multidisciplinary team to come up with creative ways to reduce inpatient falls; involve that team in the implementation phase.
· Ensure that technology solutions and redesigned clinical workflows complement each other
